In those days, Kiln was the bootlegging, rum running , and moonshine Capital of the entire Mississippi Gulf Coast. During the height of moonshine popularity in the late 1920รข€™s, there were at least fifty moonshine stills working in Kiln.

Kiln spirits had a history for substantial alcoholic proof content and a brand that remains to this very day is White Lightening.

The residents of Kiln have their own manner of pronouncing names. The community of The Kiln is called The Kill.

The first documented home and sawmill that was built at Kiln was set up by Captain Sam Favre. Captain Favre was the ancestor of the well-known NFL Quarterback, Brett Favre who grew up in Kiln.
